Wireless isn’t so buzzword-compliant anymore, and wireless companies are racing to roll out services that’ll make them market-darlings again. It looked like the Federal E911 plan — which would make wireless phones capable of transmitting their location — would save their asses by allowing a range of location-sensitive “services” (think annoy-vertisements when you walk past a store). Now wireless companies are dragging their heels, insisting that implementing E911 will be too expensive and complicated to implement. Needless to say, this is pissing off the Feds.
