Turkish prison inmates and their families have been on a fatal hunger-strike for a year, protesting changes to the prison-system that have increased the frequency and severity of beatings by guards. The protestors threatened to immolate themselves if the police attempted to take them into custody or force them to eat, and several of them did, yesterday, during a raid.
