The oldest IRC server in the world, hosted at UC Boulder, is going offline on January one.irc.colorado.edu’s been online since 1988, but the hassles associated with running a public chat server — primarily Denial of Service attacks from poorly socialized script-kiddies — are too much hassle, so the University it shutting it down.
